Here are some of the many projects and activities undertaken by CELP.
Ongoing activities
- Promoting a letter-writing campaign to urge President Obama to sign an Executive Order on Language Revitalization. Participate in the campaign here!
- Developing a list of volunteers who want to be informed of political activism in support of endangered languages; click here to join
- Establishing a “legislative watch” around endangered language issues
- Working to ensure continuing federal support for the Documenting Endangered Languages Program
- Holding exploratory discussions about the possibility of collaboration with representatives of the Peace Corps
Past Activities
- Developed a Guide for Linguistic Fieldwork
- Organized symposium, Endangered Languages and Their Preservation, at the LSA annual meeting
- Organized session on Field Reports at the LSA annual meeting
- Recommended that ‘field reports’ be added to the list of subareas on the abstract submittal form
- Compiled an Endangered Languages Survey and Resources List
- Sent a resolution to President Obama encouraging him to sign a Draft Executive Order titled ‘White House Initiative on Native American Language Revitalization’ (2011)
- Sponsored Symposium on Documenting Endangered Languages (a showcase of DEL projects) 2011 Annual meeting of the LSA
- Supported Workshop on Science, Linguistics, and Human Rights at the Annual Meeting of the LSA (2011)
- Sponsored LSA resolution recognizing the scholarly merits of language documentation. (2010)
- Sponsored a Symposium entitled: Documentary linguistics: Retrospective and Prospective (2010 Annual Meeting of the LSA)
- Organized a joint session with SSILA for the 2012 LSA Annual Meeting on language revitalization
